Irene is a short documentary produced by Blindside's Kat Hebden for the Scottish Documentary Institute's Bridging the Gap scheme 2008 through La Belle Allée Productions. Directed by Lindsay Goodall, Irene is a touching portrayal of the filmmaker’s 92 year old grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s, and the daughter who cares for her. It is a personal portrayal of three generations of women, all of whom face a difficult decision.
Irene premiered last year in competition for Best Scottish Short Documentary at Edinburgh International Film Festival. It has since screened at the BFI Upshot Short Film Festival in London and the Glasgow Short Film Festival, and bagged a BAFTA Scotland nomination along the way. Irene continued its success by winning Best Documentary at the 15th Palm Springs Annual Shortfest in July and screening at the Stranger Than Fiction Documentary Film Festival in Dublin in June, where it was in competition for Best International Short Documentary and up for the Audience Award.
